DAO Mon: Demonstration under NMEO-Oilseeds and IPM (RKVY) 2024-25 conducted at Longphaoh Village, Mon and distribution of farm inputs.
An Integrated Pest Mangement (IPM) demonstration under the Farmer Field School (FFS) component of the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oilseeds (NMEO-OS) 2024-25 was successfully conducted by District Agriculture Office, Mon, at Longphaoh village on 12th June 2025 with the objective of creating awareness and building the capacity of farmers on sustainable pest management practices in oilseed crops. A total of 34 beneficiaries, including 18 farmers from Longphaoh village and 16 from Shangnyu village actively participated in the programme. The technical session was facilitated by Dr. Watisenla Imsong (Agriculture Inspector) and Arennungla Jamir (Agriculture Inspector), who emphasized the importance of adopting IPM techniques to minimize the use of chemical pesticides and promote environmentally friendly practices. As a part of the demonstration, various bio-pesticides were introduced and distributed to the farmers, along with guidance on the preparation, application and effectiveness in controlling common pests in oilseeds. Other inputs such as insect nets and knapsack sprayers were also distributed to the beneficiaries to support the adoption of IPM practices. A field visit was also subsequently conducted to nearby maize fields affected by Fall Armyworm (FAW), during which the team provided hands-on training on pest identification, assessment of infestation levels and appropriate control measures using biological and cultural methods. Farmers were encouraged to adopt early detection and integrated approaches, combining cultural, mechanical, biological and need-based chemical control methods for effective FAW management.
On the following day, i.e., 13th June 2025, further distribution of farm inputs was carried out for the beneficiaries under NMEO-OS, covering various villages under Mon and Phomching blocks, with the aim of strengthening field-level implementation of the practices demonstrated.
